Starter Generator – DC 23081 Series

The 23081 Series DC Starter Generators include but may not be limited to part numbers: 23081-001, 23081-002, 23081-003, 23081-004, 23081-007, 23081-008, 23081-011, 23081-011-1, 23081-012, 23081-012-1, 23081-017, 23081-018, 23081-022, 23081-022A, 23081-023, 23081-023A, 23081-024, 23081-042, 23081-043, 23081-056, 23081-057, 23081-059, 23081-063, 23081-069, 23081-070, 23081-072 and 23081-073. They are manufactured or cataloged by Safran Power (TRW Lucas Goodrich) and operate as a motor to provide torque for engine starting and as a generator to provide DC electrical power after engine starting is accomplished. When used as an engine starter, the starter-generator can be energized either by batteries or by ground-power units. The Output Rating is 6 kW and the external starting power supply limitations are self-limiting current load of 1000 A maximum @ 28 VDC. The Rating for continuous load within speed range varies for the 23081 Series (please refer to the CMM for more information). Generally, these Starter Generators are used on turboprop and light jet aircraft serving the commercial and military sectors and are self-excited machines incorporating four main poles and four interpoles. During on-ground operation, a fan attached to the anti-drive end of the drive shaft supplies forced-air cooling. In flight, the starter-generator, in addition to the fan, is blast-cooled through the air inlet and the aircraft’s air duct system.
